April 4th. 2022

Hmm. Clearly, I am going to need to do better than this! Weeks/months of time slipping by with little or no progress. It is frightening how many times I think "You've had second chances". So hard to get motivated when you can do so little! But how much of that is an excuse and just plain laziness? Can I really do so little, or am I giving myself license to do so little because I feel so blah? Back to one of my earlier posts, about maybe not being able to live the lifestyle I would like, as I simply am not able, HOWEVER, there is nothing stopping me from living a version of the lifestyle I want....I have all the beginnings of what I need, including a ton of books and you-tube how-to clips. The food growing thing goes hand in hand with the better eating thing. Tonight I will try (again) to start a carrot ferment. I have bought some plain salt. I think I may have used iodised in the past which is not optimal. This morning I woke early. Daylight saving has just ended, and I ...

New Year

The health really is screaming at me to do something (anything?) to FIX it. I have just today made an appointment for the doctor as my blood tests are back (checking on the pre-diabetes) and I am aware there was a need to increase the anti diabetes drug I was put on 3 months ago...but also from the blood test results, my cholesterol is doing stupid shit. Which considering the amount of cholesterol medication I am on is bloody alarming. I don't like extreme measures but I am seriously considering going vegan again. Why not? If I can go alcohol free I can do any bloody thing!

Christmas Eve 2021!

Phew. Made it this far. Just might make it to 2022.  The last 2 weeks have been insanely stressful. Just the usual hype, rush and build up to Christmas. I had thought I was reasonably organised, but it turns out that, no, I'm not. And it has made me really anxious. I have noted that my anxiety has got worse as I have aged. I am pretty sure I never used to give a damn pretty much about anything. Now I find myself micro-managing everything and getting myself in one hell of a state...and then not meeting my own criteria for what I need to be sorted! The last few days in particular have been   nuts, but here I am, Christmas Eve, and I have made it this far, so I think I'm going to be alright...a week ago I was not so sure. Everyone turning up tomorrow. I will be stressed until after Christmas dinner....but as for today, I just have 2 jobs to do once I finish work, and the rest will be cruising with my dude. Thank God this nutty season is almost over for another year.

December!

And I blinked, and now it's December. Yoga classes are cancelled due to the Covid traffic light system, which means people will be denied entry if they do not carry a vaccine pass. Considering the yoga teacher is an anti vaxxer it is understandable that she is not in a position to stay open. Both teachers have said yoga is not about denying access to anyone and although I don't share their views on being anti vax, I at least applaud them for their integrity. They are, at least, genuine in their beliefs. I will miss their classes, but honestly, at this point in the year, I am tired, and I am glad not to be going out (although the classes were refreshing and beautiful), and with Auckland out on the loose, fresh from lockdown, while community cases still rising, I am quite happy to stay at home. So I have...again...restarted DDPY in my wee yoga space. I don't enjoy it like I do my local yoga, but I do feel like it is making my body work...with the exception of my tennis elbow...

November!

And zoooom. Just like that, it's November. Have had an incredibly busy couple of weeks. I injured my arm and haven't been to Krannon's gym for at least 2 maybe 3 weeks, and I doubt I will get there this week. I am KNACKERED.  I have been to the doc though, and had blood tests...and my pre-diabetes has escalated again so have a referral to a dietician, and...although I have been there and done that, I think I really might be running out of second chances, so...this is it. Some changes ahead. There needs to be.

Any progress is good

When your progress is miniscule, you really need to take the time to be thankful for just where you are at. I have made some very small efforts in the garden. Planting the tiniest amount of carrots (a skinny little row, no more than 2 feet long....and then 2 weeks later, I planted another. I am hoping in another 2 weeks I should see definite signs of the first lot, so I can fill in the holes...and plant another 2 feet. Lettuces have gone in, but only after the chooks had had a fair go at them. A cucumber plant has been planted. I have a watermelon to plant but currently it is still in it's pot inside the glass house as some frosts are likely.  My son is due home this weekend, and mid next week he is due to go into hospital for some dental surgery, which I am dreading. Meanwhile, I have yoga two nights a week. Tnight being the second night (and I.Am.So.Tired, that I don't really want to go...but I will. It's progress.

How many times is a re-set acceptable?

I make the mistake of making these posts far too long. So I have deleted everything, and am starting again. During the first lockdown phase (March 2020) it occurred to me just how unprepared we are for a life changing event. We were fortunate, we still had access to all the "essentials" Food, Petrol, Fresh water etc etc, but it could have been so much worse, which put me into the mindset of shouldn't we get ready in case?... Combined with this has been the dissatisfaction of my lifestyle and ill health, and again...hasn't this eye opening event made me want to consider what could be done to make the lifestyle I want achievable? During that first lockdown I spent a LOT of time watching you-tubers doing their thing. Most inspiring...and have I done anything to do MY thing? No, not really...and there have been a lot of excuses about that, but the thing I have realised is I don't have to do the WHOLE thing, I just have to start, where I am at, with what I have got, a...
